The rain dance

by Teatart

A silence in the woods
an owl peeks through its hoods
the whisper of the grass
gently, softly, sparse
a rumble from the sky
deep and long and high
and with it comes a flash
a short vicious lash
a rustle of feet
dancing to a beat
crashing through the bush
with a mush-mush-mush
shouting to a drum
wailing to the sky
with a long-pitched cry –
a rumble
a bolt
everything ahalt …

A silence in the woods
an owl peeks though its hoods
a sense of anticipation
a raw desperation
and then comes the pitter
all birds a-twitter
springing through the leaves
as a breeze begins to heave;
a running of feet
retreat, retreat!
a rain begins to pour
healing all the sore.
